Concrete Supply is Hiring a Quality Manager Near Pittsboro, NC

Job Description:
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Quality Manager is responsible for all aspects of product quality. The Quality Manager will report to the VP of Technical Services and must work closely with the regional Operations, Sales, Safety and Dispatch Managers providing technical support, training and expertise. The Quality Manger will manage the regional field technicians assigning daily tasks and providing employee development and training. The Quality Manager is responsible for the design and performance of all concrete mix designs including, but not limited, to raw material evaluation, QC database management, mix design optimization, mix design submittals, technical support and product investigations.
  • Develop a strong understanding of Concrete Supply Co. (CSC) ready-mixed materials, mix performance and concrete operations.
  • Provide direct management of regional field technicians.
  • Review specifications and contract documents during the pre-bid process.
  • Prepare concrete mix design submittals in accordance with project specifications.
  • Perform regular data analysis of mix designs, material sets and market areas.
  • Oversee the investigation, evaluation and development of innovative, cost-effective materials and mix designs in the laboratory and/or at plants.
  • Provide support to sales through customer meetings, presentations, customer visits and other forms of effective communication.
  • Develop, maintain and provide technical training.
  • Over see the training and implementation/utilization of new technologies designed to improve the overall quality and profitability of ready-mixed concrete. Such technologies may include concrete mix management software, concrete AI, batch analysis software and load management systems and software.
  • Utilize demonstrated skills to investigate, troubleshoot and resolve concrete product liability issues in a timely and effective manner. This would include collection and analysis of both in-house production, delivery and construction records; onsite observations, measurements and sampling; conducting and/or contracting appropriate sample testing; and appropriate verbal and written communication of results to CSC management and customers.
  • Develop relationships within the construction industry and engineering community throughout the Carolinas and Southeast.
  • Proactive involvement in technical organizations such as the American Concrete Institute (ACI), National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
JOB ACTIVITIES:
Working Hours: Generally, day shift, but night work as may be specifically assigned. Some overnight travel will be required. Occasionally travel may be required on short notice.
Working Environment: Generally, inside the office and/or laboratory. Field work will also be required outside in weather, uneven ground, traffic, around heavy equipment, concrete plants, and construction sites.
Manual Processes: Lifting body weight (entering and exiting truck), climbing ladders, operate machinery, lift & secure up to 80 lb. repeatedly (40-lb overhead). Maneuver wheel-barrel. Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times (steel toed safety boots, hardhat, safety glasses, gloves, etc.)
Personal Contact: Customers, peers, supervisor.
Job Requirements:
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Construction Management, Geology and/or minimum of 7 years experience in ready-mixed concrete quality control and technical services.
  • Valid state class “C” driver’s license
  • Clear understanding of industry standards and codes.
  • Ability to obtain ACI, NRMCA and local DOT Certifications within 12 months
  • Proven incident and problem solving (troubleshooting) skills with an emphasis on timely resolution.
  • Interpersonal skills including conflict resolution.
  • Excellent project management and analytical skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and effectively manage time and work practices to meet established milestones on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to follow established process and procedures and lead efforts to develop new ones as necessary.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of internal Concrete Supply Co. and customer management.
  • Computer skills: Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel & Outlook and proprietary database management and concrete batching systems.
PREFERRED:
  • Practical work experience with a ready mixed concrete supplier, precast concrete manufacturer, a third party testing lab with concrete testing and inspection experience and/or a commercial contractor specializing in cast-in-place concrete construction
  • Existing Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification and working towards Professional Engineering (PE) License or PE.
  • Any applicable concrete related certifications (ACI, NRMCA)
